IAS Spring Meeting 2025

This year’s Iowa Archeological Society annual spring meeting takes place on Saturday, April 19, at Lacey-Keosauqua State Park in southeast Iowa.

Registration

You do not have to be an IAS member to register for the meeting, but we encourage you to join.

Online: Pay in advance here or click ADD TO CART below. Choose the number of registrations and click ADD TO CART. Then VIEW CART. Add the names of the registrants to the ADDITIONAL INFORMATION field at the bottom of the page.

By mail: Watch for a mailer, coming soon.

In person: Register Friday evening or Saturday morning of the conference. Cash, check accepted.

Call for Papers

**The call for papers is CLOSED.** Please consider presenting your research or activities to the membership at the meeting! Topics can relate to archaeology, history, anthropology, and similar disciplines of interest to IAS members. If interested, please e-mail the IAS president with your name and contact information, as well as the topic/tentative title.

Keyes-Orr Award Nominations

**The call for nominations for the Keyes-Orr Award is currently CLOSED**. Anyone in the IAS can nominate an individual(s). The award is presented at the annual spring meeting.

Nomination/Submission Materials Required

  1. Award Nomination Form (downloadable PDF)
  2. A letter of nomination that identifies the person being nominated, summarizes their qualities as aligned with the Award criteria (bulleted), and communicates the nominee’s service to Iowa archaeology at large
  3. Optional letter(s) of support/endorsements (no more than three)

Lunch

Lunch is on your own and the park provides the perfect setting for dining al fresco.   Members are encouraged to bring along a packed lunch since there are no restaurants or food vendors in the immediate vicinity. See a list of nearby restaurants below.

Field Trip (weather permitting)

Following the meeting, members are invited to join a tour of local historic sites including the Iowaville Cemetery, the National Register-listed Lock Keeper’s house, and the American Gothic House historic site in nearby Elden. OSA Archaeologist Cindy Peterson and IAS President Dan Higginbottom will lead the tour and provide historical background, accounts of previous investigations, and interpretations. Be sure to bring along appropriate seasonal apparel and comfortable footwear for short walks.
