The IAS newsletter is published quarterly and offers short articles, notices of upcoming activities and events, and local chapter news. Beginning in 2026, the newsletter format transitioned from a printed mailer to an email newsletter sent to the IAS membership listserv.
PDF versions of the catalog of printed newsletters from 1951 through two years ago are available to the public via the University of Iowa Digital Library, with the most recent print editions being added soon.
New: Email Newsletter Archive
A survey of IAS members in 2025 indicated that most members wanted the newsletter to be an emailed version, and they wanted it available to the public. As quarterly issues are released each season, they will be posted here.
Newsletter Submissions
Members are strongly encouraged to submit content! We circulate short articles on archaeological research and topics, share relevant news and announcements with members, and help to promote member publications, programs, and events. With the new digital format, we can also include videos.
Note: It is great to include imagery with your articles, but numerous, large files may cause some email service providers to block the email, or images may not load properly. It’s best to included images that are a maximum size of 500kb, and no more than 600px wide. You will be asked to provide alt text and ownership credits for the images in your submission. Additionally, only submit images that you have permission from the creator to share, and ensure that all people who are identifiable in an image have agreed for that photo to circulate.
