All memberships provide opportunities for self-education in Iowa archaeology. Two official publications are received by all members: the Journal of the Iowa Archeological Society (published annually) and the quarterly Newsletter of the Iowa Archeological Society. The Journal carries reports of scientific investigations conducted in Iowa, and the Newsletter provides the membership a medium for publication of short articles and an opportunity to keep abreast of archaeological activities in Iowa.
The Iowa Archeological Society meets annually in the spring and frequently in the fall at various places around the state. The meetings provide an opportunity for exchange of information through workshops, site reports and special lectures for individuals to learn about Iowa’s rich and interesting past.
Members also participate in many statewide events, and are among the first notified about field trip and fieldwork opportunities.
Yearly dues for all membership levels cover one calendar year (January 1-December 31).
Any person interested in furthering the goals of the society is invited to join; no previous knowledge or training is necessary.

What membership level do I need?

| Active | Individual membership with voting privileges. | $30 |
| Household | A household membership includes persons living at the same address. Each household member has voting privileges. One copy of the newsletters and journals is sent per household. | $35 |
| Sustaining | A sustaining membership constitutes an active membership, plus a $10 gift to IAS. | $40 |
| Institution | An institutional membership is available to organizations, libraries, schools, etc. One copy of the newsletters and journals is sent per institution. No voting privileges. | $40 |
| Student | Available to currently enrolled students, under 18 through graduate school. No voting privileges. Students receive digital-only versions of the publications. | $15 |
How to Complete an Online Purchase
- Once you have decided on the membership level you would like to purchase, click “Add to Cart”.
- “View Cart” will appear below the “Add to Cart” button. Click “View Cart” from this location or click on “Cart” in the top bar menu to see your selections.
- Make sure the quantity of items is correct. Use the up and down arrows next to the number under quantity to modify or delete the memberships you selected and click “Update Cart” if needed.
- Click on “View cart” that appears below “Add to Cart” after you added your item. Alternatively, click on “Cart” in the top bar menu to see your selections. Make sure the quantity of items is correct!
- Click orange “Proceed to Checkout” button and complete your billing details. This is important for our membership database. Your publications will be sent to this address unless you notify us of a different address under “Additional information”.
- Click yellow PayPal Button. If you have a PayPal account, proceed as you normally would.
- If you would like to check out as a guest, scroll down to the gray bar that says “Pay with Debit or Credit Card.” Enter your billing details and click “continue” to complete your purchase.
