Friday & Saturday, October 4-5
The Office of the State Archaeologist (OSA) and Iowa Archeological Society (IAS) are teaming up for a weekend of archaeology-related events in Iowa City.
The OSA, established in 1959, is hosting an open house from 4:30-7pm on Friday, October 4, in honor of 60 years of archaeological exploration and preservation in Iowa. The event will be at OSA headquarters on the University of Iowa campus, 700 S. Clinton St. There will be ancient technology demonstrations, self-guided tours of the facility, artifact displays, traditional pioneer and Native American toys and games, catered refreshments, and more! The 60th anniversary event is timed to coincide with the office’s recognition of International Archaeology Day.
The IAS Fall meeting will be held on Saturday, October 5, at the University Capitol Centre (UCC) in downtown Iowa City. Stay tuned for a call for presenters and registration information!
I hope IAS members come from far and wide to help OSA celebrate it’s 60th anniversary October 4th and stay for the IAS fall meeting Saturday October 5 — it should be a grand fall weekend in Iowa City!
