Attention students and student mentors! The Iowa Archeological Society’s Douglas W. Jones Memorial Research Grant Program is now accepting submissions! New this year, all qualified student applicants will receive a one-year complementary IAS student membership, good from now through 2020!
Complete info is available here.
Here’s the gist:
Any student, undergraduate or graduate, from any institution (including outside of Iowa) who is researching an archaeology or history topic with an archaeological component is eligible to apply for this research grant. The goal of this research grant is to support projects that advance those areas of research Doug was most passionate about, which include but are not limited to: paleoethnobotany, collaboration and consultation with tribal communities, the Underground Railroad, or other Iowa archaeology topics.
It’s an easy application, and you’ll be published in an IAS publication! Also, you can use up to 50% of the grant to fund conference fees/travel, if you have a match. So if you’d like to attend a big conference like those by The Society for Historical Archaeology, Society for American Archaeology, Midwest Archaeological Conference, or others, this will help!
Applications are due on March 1, 2020, and the IAS will notify the grant recipient around April 1. You don’t have to wait until March, submit your application any time, starting now!
Students, faculty advisers, parents, and friends, we encourage you to share this message with your favorite student archaeologist or historian. Don’t forget, all applicants will receive an IAS membership for 2020, which includes PDF copies of the latest journal issues and newsletters, as well as IAS announcements via the list serve.
